Summer Internship in July& August
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In response to youth needs and the effects of globalization, the Chinese YMCA (YMCA) of Hong Kong (CYMCA) offers international internship and volunteer positions for youth and students in Hong Kong and overseas. In 2003, the Global Y Trainee Program was launched based on the concept of YMCA overseas and has been running successfully since then through connections and partnerships with YMCA, universities and organizations in different parts of the world, including the USA, England, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Tanzania, Thailand, Sri Lanka, mainland China and Germany.
OUR SUMMER TRAINING AIMS
- Promote the concept of global citizenship among young people through Raising youth awareness of global issues through their commitment to a sustainable development in local communities;
- Promotion of cultural understanding through cultural and historical exposure and study;
- Offer opportunities for mutual exchange between different cultures;
- Developing an adequate work attitude among students and improving it their employability in their future career;
- Give students the opportunity to develop their leadership, communication skills and to develop their sense of responsibility and their unique potential explore;
- To act as a platform on which friendships between different countries are based all over the world.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
- A high degree of initiative
- Get involved in the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and incorporate its programs into your leisure activities
- The desire or at least the willingness to incorporate the gospel and Christian values into programs and to help people discover and develop their faith
- Openness to a new and, from your own, very different culture
- Respectful treatment of superiors, employees and roommates, as well as a respectful treatment of Asian culture, tradition and religion
FRAMEWORK CONDITIONS
The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong has worked with international partners on the basis of a bilateral agreement to accept and deploy young people for internships for a period of 4 to 8 weeks.
- You are between the ages of 18 and 26
- You would like to do around 40 hours of internship per week
- Work-related transport costs and food costs during the internship will be covered
- Interns are responsible for applying for a valid visa (if required), round-trip tickets, travel insurance, and other personal expenses
WORKING POINTS
These are possible positions of the CYMCA for interns abroad,
among others in child and youth work:
- Holiday camps
- Programs in kindergartens, elementary schools, and secondary schools
International school programs - Administrative work in the office
- Public relations such as website, Facebook or Instagram
- Working at The Cityview & The Harbourview Hotel
- Programs for sports and leisure centers
- Integrated team programs for children and young people
- Rehabilitation and senior programs
Summer internship:

Immerse for 2 months
Period: 2 months (July to August)
Location: Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR China
Target group: young adults (18-26 years)
Areas of work: Service center of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong
Accommodation: Shared Appartement in the YMCA WuKaiSha Youth Village (provided)
Support:
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, including HK $ 50 pocket money per day, on working days in the Youth Camp; On working days outside of the Youth Camp, a flat rate of HK $ 200 per day
